: Jan De Lichte was an infamous robbers’ chief at the end of the 18th Century. He was broken on the wheel at the age of 23 at the Marketplace of Aalst

Alcohol percentage : 7.0 vol%

Appearance : straw yellow, slightly hazy, strong sparkling, heavy head

Taste : grapefruit aroma, spicy and slightly bitter in the mouth, long dry aftertaste.


 

CANASTER
Winterscotch

Name : “One used to praise their beer, which was called Canaster, it was drink and food, even for a long trip”

(Petrus Van Nuffel – 1908 – about the beer of the Carmelite convent of Aalst).

Type : scotch

Alcohol percentage : 8.7 vol%

Appearance : red brown with broken white heavy head

Taste : mainly fruity in the nose, nice balance of sweet and sour in the mouth, long dry burnt bitter aftertaste

Jan Michiel van Bragt (catalogue Essen’s Christmas beer festival) : a very tempting aroma of burnt malts, citrus fruits : fruity esters and some touch of liquorice.
